Designs for sourdough

Art & Bread

There’s a childlike-fun about using a round or loaf of bread as a canvas!

Take a very sharp knife or lame (blade) & begin to “draw” to your hearts content.

(Even a benneton basket imprint makes for a pretty look.)

I cautiously started with simple crosses, soup bowls & worked my way up to using bakers twine. I’m definitely still learning. Nothing super fancy here yet, but stay tuned for more designs to come.

My tips:

I like to spray my bread with water, so a fine mist over the dough helps create a lovely crust while baking. I also then spray the inside of the Dutch oven or the tray I’m using with water, right before closing the lid. This helps create that coveted steamy environment.
